Freegistutorial.blogspot.com proudly present the new version of gen2shp free gis application. What is gen2shp? Based on its description on the official website, gen2shp is a C developed program that will help GIS users to convert between Arcinfo file into ESRI Shapefile (.shp).
gen2shp is a free gis software. But unfortunately its not equipped with a user friendly interface. This software only have command line interface and not suitable for a beginner. To install gen2shp, follow the following procedures:
- Download shapelib 1.2.8 (or higher) , install and compile it somewhere on your system - gen2shp prefers the dynamic library (manual work needed for static binding, not much work though).
- Download gen2shp, unpack files somewhere on your system.
- Execute 'make'. Everything should work.
- Execute 'test' to check whether something wicked happens.
